Enjoy Nerdish your way

People take in information differently, and the same person may need different things on different days. That's why every Nerdish article works in three ways.

Read

For when you want to take your time. Each story comes with historical photos, documents and illustrations that are best seen on the page.

Listen

Every article is also available as audio, so a story can keep you company on a walk, in the car or while cooking.

Read and listen

Follow the text while the audio plays. We added this mode at our readers' request, and many say it helps them stay focused, especially those with ADHD.

How every story is built

Nerdish is an educational app for busy adults, with short editorial articles on general knowledge topics.

We write about the history of everyday things, how familiar objects and systems work, and why events turned out the way they did.

Each article takes 10 to 15 minutes to read and is divided into five or six chapters of two to three minutes each, adapted for reading on a phone.

Every article is written by people and built on a framework we developed to keep out filler and unnecessary detail. Each one focuses on the key information and leaves you with the sense of having learned something new.

Why read Nerdish

General knowledge without the study time

This isn't academic learning that takes hours and effort. A Nerdish article takes 10 to 15 minutes, and each one is built to give you the most useful and interesting part of a topic in that time. Story by story, it adds up to a broader picture of the world.

Write to us at info@nerdish.io. We're a small company and every reader matters to us, so we're happy to answer your questions and explain how everything works.

Who is Nerdish for?

Nerdish is read by adults of all ages, from students to retirees. Some read it with their morning coffee, others before going to sleep. What they have in common is curiosity: they like to know how things work and why things happened, but rarely have time for long books or courses.

Is Nerdish only available in English?

For now, yes: all articles are in English. They are written in clear, everyday language, and Nerdish is read in 212 countries, including by people for whom English is a second language. The app has been downloaded more than 100,000 times.

Are the articles written by AI?

No. Our articles are written by authors and editors. Like any editorial team, we have our own standards. We work with widely used sources, such as Wikipedia, Encyclopaedia Britannica and other publicly available materials, double-check the facts and aim to confirm each one in at least two sources.

How is it different from Wikipedia?

Wikipedia gives you complete information on a subject. Nerdish picks the most interesting and useful part of it and tells it as a story you can read in 10 to 15 minutes. For us, the narrative matters more than the number of facts in it. We also work with experts in each subject, so that every article is as complete as the format allows.

Do you cover news or politics?

No. We write about history, people, art, science and culture, not about current events or politics. Nerdish is meant to be a calm place to read.
